Casa Féteira: One Family's Story

The mill was established in 1912 by José Luiz Féteira, the great-grandfather of the current owners. It was founded during an era when olive cultivation was flourishing on the slopes of the Serra de Candeeiros—a legacy of the Cistercian monks, who decisively introduced the "Galega" variety to the lands of Alcobaça and Porto de Mós in the 18th century.

Of the seven olive mills operating in the parish of Pedreiras during the mid-20th century, Casa Féteira is the only one still in operation. It holds the distinction of being the first to receive legal production authorization, granted on 22 February 1930 via a charter signed by the Minister of Industry of the time.

Tradition and Innovation

In 2007, Casa Féteira – Sociedade Agrícola Lda was formed. This family-run enterprise, now led by the 5th generation, was created to consolidate the family heritage and secure the investments necessary for modernisation. Today, it is regarded as a landmark mill—one of the most advanced and modern facilities in the region.

Managing 12 hectares of organic olive groves (predominantly of the Galega variety), the company maintains total control over the production and extraction chain. This extends to the commercial sector, which features our three signature lines: Casa Féteira, Vila Forte and Quinta da Capeleira.

The Mill

Completely renovated in 2007 and further expanded in 2018, the mill now has an installed processing capacity of 3,000kg of olives per hour.

We utilise state-of-the-art two-phase centrifugal separation technology. This operates as a closed-circuit system at low temperatures—strictly maintained below 35°C (Cold Extraction).

Specifically configured to work in separate batches, our mill can extract seven different oils almost simultaneously without any mixing. This unique capability allows small-scale local olive growers to take home and enjoy the oil from their very own olives.
